Whats wrong with my daughter???

My 13 year old suffers from severe gastric reflux and now has

- swollen glands in neck
- minor fatigue
- irregular periods that are light and stop on 4th day and then start around 5 – 6th again
- salt cravings

She doesn’t usually have irregular periods as she has had it for 5 years – early developer. Im worried about her other symptoms though. I think her main concern is her periods as their not what she usually has. When you feel her neck you can feel 2 lumpy things under her jaw. Shes booked into the doctor soon.

Does anyone know what these symptoms mean?

Thanks in advance.

These are symptoms of many conditions but I will tell you my experience and it is worth being tested as the average wait for a diagnoses for this disease is 4 yrs.

I have swollen glands, pain in jaw, sometimes my neck is completely misshapen.

My fatigue ranges from minor to sever

My doctor tells me that they don’t know why but SLE can in some women cause menstrual issues. It does for me.

I have SLE (Systematic Lupus) very treatable but usually overlooked for other conditions before a correct diagnoses is found.

I suggest you do what you are doing and keep being your daughters best advocate.

    Good luck!

it sounds like her electrolyte levels are off… and might have a infection on top of it… my totally random educated guess… If her electrolyte levels are off she will have fatigue and her periods or any release of body fluid would be wacked… and shes having salt cravings…. the only thing that isnt fitting is swollen glands… if it is tucked right behind her jaw bone those are lymp nodes and those typically only flare up when they are doing their job cleaning the blood… which isnt a bad thing…That means the body has a infection and the body is taking care of it. if the swollen glands are down further and in the center of her throat then it could mean that her thyroid gland is swelling and that can be a iodine deficiancy… i might sound like i know what im talking about lol but im only a 2nd year nursing student and i know if it was my step daughter those are the first things i would think of…

Sounds like something is wrong with her thyroid gland (i.e. swolen neck, salt cravings..)
What your daughter is probabaly suffering from is called Hypothyroidism. This is caused by the glands lacking the production of thyroid hormone. Problems such as fatigue is an early sign of the issue. BUT problems like irregular periods is usually a sign of late symptoms.

Even though your daughter may crave salt, keep her iodized salt consumption low as this may actually worsen the problem. Also avoid herbal remedies for her throat.
