What are the nursing interventions for a patient with gastric bypass surgery?

-Pain control as ordered by MD
-Assess I/O’s
-Assess the wounds daily
-PATIENT TEACHING- Goodness, always go back to pt teaching if you’re stuck. (wound changes, s/s of infection, proper handwashing, medications…)
The answer to that depends on how long ago the surgery was done. Immediately after the surgery will basically be like the post-op time after any surgery. Bed in the hospital, wound care for the surgical site, ambulation in the halls, monitoring intake and output, and lots of education on how to take care of yourself when you get home. The initial period will consist of clear liquids, then all liquids, then soft foods, etc. Some of the main things to keep in mind are that you have to not just watch the size of your portions after this surgery, but what is in them. Because of the fact that you are going to be taking in such a limited amount of food you really need to make sure that the foods you eat are going to nourish your body. Also if you don’t watch the types of food you eat, you could get dumping syndrome which is a miserable feeling. I can’t stress it enough NUTRITION, NUTRITION, NUTRITION, you want to loose weight not your life (by which I really mean life because if you rob your body of too much of what you need it will stop!) Hope this helps, good luck and please be careful, follow ALL your doctors instructions.
Gastric Bypass Surgery /gastrectomy/stomach stapling /lapband (all types of bariatric surgery) is very safe nowadays. It is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.
I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your obesity surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.
My cousin got her surgery for gastric bypass in India through the forerunners healthcare .She is more than very happy with the results. She has lost 65lbs in 5 months. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps
