Statistically, the typical GBS patient loses 80-85% of excess weight by 15 months after surgery. This goes "up" to only 68% at three years.

This means that if one has 100 excess pounds, he/she will have lost 80-85 in 15 months, and have a net loss of 68 pounds in the long run.

This is not set in stone and are averages only…some will gain back more…some will gain back less…some will not gain back any.

Weight loss surgery is a TOOL to long term weight loss…it is an adjunct to determined weight loss dieting and exercise programs.

Hmm, well I think my teacher might be a person who has, although I’m not sure. I remember she had gastric bypass, and she was huge, and then she started losing weight little by little. The next year I saw her, she seemed just as big to me, although I don’t have her as a teacher anymore so I had no way to ask her about the gastric bypass and how she was doing after it.

yes my friend! if you dont follow the diet and recommendation of the doctor, the surgery is pointless. you have to take care of yourself

Yeah, I have a friend that has gained some weight back because the stomach can stretch back out again eventually, a better alternative is the lap-band, because you can only fit tiny amounts of food through the band, and you always feel full, can’t stretch out the stomach either.

I have known a number of people who have had the gastric bypass done and kind of pay attention since my husband was considering it for several years now. He got done in Jan. and is doing great now.

The people I have seen seem to lose a whole lot of weight in that first year. As time goes on, it seems like most of them gain a little of it back, but none I know ever gained it all back or really even come close to the size they once were. I know several that have had it over 5 years ago and has gained none of it back.

Look at Al Roker. He puts a little back on from time to time, but he never has gained a substantial amount back. Randy Jackson seemed to gain a good bit back the other year, but he seems to have slimmed down again this year. Carnie Wilson gained a lot back, but she still isn’t as big as she was prior to surgery. From what I see, the people having it seem to be much better at controlling their weight even years after it has been done.
