It’s crazy to me that some Christians think that getting this surgery would be AGAINST God’s plan, because for me… as a STRONG Christian… this surgery was God’s plan for my life. God uses our weaknesses to allow us strengths. If I hadn’t been 430lbs I would have no idea to help someone going through the same situation as me, to know what it’s like to have the chains broken and really start living. It was totally a blessing that my insurance company approved my surgery in 8 days.

Hi there, just stumbled upon your videos, I have really enjoyed watching them for the past hour or so.

I have to tell you, I am planning on having my surgery sometime late Jan-early Feb 2011. I’m currently starting my 2nd month of my insurance’s required pre-surgery diet & excercize program.

    continued…

Great response! I will be using the same analogy when I face the question. I’m not sure whether I will announce I had gastric to strangers on the street but my friends and family will of course know the truth. I myself thought it was the “easy” way out, the last 2 weeks I have been doing non-stop research on gastric and I now know it is NOT easy. I thank you for recording this. You look great!

WOW! You never know what people will say. Once my husband and I decided that WLS was what we were to do we also wanted the Glory of God to be displayed as we walked out the journey. In order to do that we must speak out. We know there are some who do not agree, but that is their choice and this is ours. We are gracious but, we give no apologies. We have also educated our children and there are as vocal as well. This world needs more hope and less despair. To someone facing death WLS = HOPE!

I can’t believe I had not seen this video before tonight. I let the answers come as they may. Today, in the hallway of my church, with a woman who returned just to give a seminar…I just said that I had been working hard at losing weight for a long time.
Whereas in an apartment building, as I was delivering mail to the receptionist, I spoke about the RNY surgery that I had had months earlier when she asked me if I was the same woman who had delivered mail in the past. Oh, yes I am!

i actually still tell them the truth.

  10. croyall23 says:

Great response. I think that’s what I’m going to tell people instead of going into all of the details. Have you had anyone else since this video ask you how you’ve lost weight? And did you tell them I’m on a diet or did you tell them the truth? Just curious about the reactions.

  11. watchmegetskinny says:

    :) thanks.

You Go!! I have to say that I feel like I am a strong Christian, I firmly believe in Jesus, and have been praying about having gastric bypass surgery myself, never once have I ever thought that I was cheating God as a matter of fact I know that His will, will be done!! So God Bless you and everyone else thinking of taking a step to better their health. Thanks for your inspiration!!

I come across a similar situation often here where I live, people constantly look at me funny in restaurants when I order a tiny entree for my meal, and I wonder whether I should tell them I had surgery and explain than an entree is all I can eat, or just smile and agree that that is what I ordered and please go get it. Your situation is more difficult, and I would not lie about surgery to avoid confrontation, but if it happens on a regular basis perhaps it is the way for you. All the best! :)

  14. xMoreThanMyOwnLifex says:

Man, you handled that in *such* a more mature way than I would have. Kudos!

  15. meltingmamma says:

I am sure you were very respectful to him and hopfully educated him. I’m kind of torn on this one. I understand not getting into an argument at work, but I’m sad that you wont be able to be open about it. I feel if we are open and postive about it, we put the surgery in a good light. There are so many that still have uneasy feelings about the surgery. Like I said, I understand it, but I hate it for you. Good Luck!

  16. kristea0337 says:

I think you made a great point with him. It is astounding how ignorant so many people are. What was his plan? Really? Was he going to convince you it was wrong & make you go want to have it reversed? No, WLS isn’t for everyone but it is wonderful that that option is available now to those who really need it. You are looking great. Keep it up. :)

  17. nanciannaj says:

    I LOVE MICHEAL JACKSON!!!

  18. nanciannaj says:

You are so great! God had a plan for you before you were planned for. Maybe the purpose was for you to enlighten him, perhaps this too was God’s plan. You are a great blessing to us all to have to watch on your brave journey. You ROCK!!

  19. kbf1 says:

You did well. People just ask for the purpose of asking and speak for the purpose of speaking. You put trust in others when you share – so its your right not to. Your story isn’t cheap -its good to keep it and share it with those you trust and love.

    Cheers,
    k

You are doing such a great job and it’s crazy how ignorant some people can be.

  21. lyzettesalazar says:

    I second this.

  22. septembergirl54 says:

That was a 5 STAR video!! First heard about this from DivaTaunia. He knew exactly what he was saying and your response was great. Some people just don’t have a filter. I do agree with you about sharing it with some people. Some people are very intrusive and feel they should be privy to your private info. What ever happened to manners? I can remember when asking personal questions like that was bad manners and I’m not that old. You look great, keep on keepin on! Vanessa

  23. allisonpacino says:

First let me say congrats on your weight loss…I knew it would pick up again :) As I hope you know I am a Christian myself and I think that statement is so ridiculous. I KNOW it was God’s plan for me to have this surgery actually. There was no other way to explain the way everything happened for me. Some people just need to sweep off their own porch ! LOL ( I’m so country)

  24. Therocksgrl says:

I think you handled that just exactly how you should have!!!! you are doing a great job
