is it possible to get pre eclampsia without having the symptom of the high blood pressure or swelling weight gain? I have quite a few of the symptoms listed other than that… actually I am underweight due to severe morning sickness but havent had any swelling or anything. I have the rapid blur in vision * my eyes have gotten very bad* the upper gastric pain on the right side that is felt on the back as well *under bra strap line* which i read was a symptom of hellp syndrome.
heres the severe symptom list and all of these are what I have. just not high blood pressure or swelling.
•Headaches that are dull or throbbing and will not go away
•Abdominal pain, mostly felt on the right side, underneath the ribs. Pain may also be felt in the right shoulder, and can be confused with heartburn, gallbladder pain, a stomach virus, or the baby kicking
•Agitation
•Nausea and vomiting (worrisome sign) still at 31 weeks.
•Vision changes — temporary loss of vision, sensations of flashing lights, auras, light sensitivity, spots, and blurry vision
By definition, pre-eclampsia is the combination of high blood pressure and protein in the urine. Sounds to me like you are developing migraines. I take aspirin for them, and will in pregnancy as well since it is safer than most of the migraine meds. That abdominal pain issue is a different story. I would suggest that you make an appointment to see your doctor to rule out other concerns. If your doctor isn’t taking your issues seriously, see another doctor or go to the ER and tell them that your doctor simply will not address these issues.
That’s enough symptoms to talk to your dr about it. He/she can order a urine test to see if there’s protein in your urine. And how do you know for sure your BP isn’t high? Are you taking it at home? And its possible that its within a ‘normal range’ but its high for you (compared to what it is normally). Check with your doc. just to be sure.
You can have HELLP Syndrome without having high blood pressure or protein in your urine. Some of those symptoms can be normal pregnancy discomforts, but the right upper quadrant pain and visual disturbances concern me the most.
Can you go to labor and delivery tonight? Tell them your symptoms and ask to have PIH (pregnancy-induced hypertension) labs run (which actually test for HELLP Syndrome).
