People who've had gastric bypass, what regular, grocery store foods can you eat without trouble?

At 6 weeks past surgery, I can keep down cottage cheese, smooth Campbell’s pea soup, tofu, shrimp, crab, tuna, skim milk, tea, tomato juice, chicken broth, Progresso onion soup with the onion pieces strained out, food-processed chicken and turkey and vegetables, and various canned protein drinks, though the yuck factor of the protein drinks is high. (Would eat eggs but am allergic.) I have trouble consuming 60 grams of protein a day from my limited list. Packaged bariatric foods seem very expensive and full of chemicals, and some provoke allergic symptoms.

What foods have worked for you at this stage and later?

Thanks in advance to all who respond.

Hi I had the bypass four year ago. At 6 weeks I was lucky to keep milk down. I did eat a LOT of eggs, and trust me if I never eat another egg in my life I won’t be sad!! There are protein bars on the market that I was able to eat at 6 weeks, but VERY slowly! Try Campbell’s chicken soup with wild rice, not white!! I could keep that down as well, but again I had to eat it very slowly! That is the biggest thing to remember, don’t try and eat anything fast like you used to!! And STAY AWAY FROM SUGAR!! Not because of the calories, but because sugar will make you sick in seconds, trust me I know, it still does me four year down the road!! The good news is that after the first 3 months things will get a little easier! I’m sure your surgeon gave you a list of dos and don’ts in regards to what type of foods you can eat or not eat. If you want to talk send me a message and I will give you my e-mail address or phone number if you want. I have helped about 12 others over the past two years get through the first year. I lost 332 pounds by the way, so all the pain and frustration you are going through now is well worth it down the road!!! God Bless!

Hi! I had my bypass five years ago and have lost 300 lbs.
It is very tough to get all the protein in that you need to as you eat so little. Have you tried dry protein mix with ice and fruit? It will give you water, protein and a bit of fruit. I ate a lot of
eggs!! I also ate food that was in jars that was for toddlers. You would have to add salt though because it is so bland.
In those days there were no prepacked foods where I live
so I had to make do with what I had. Try this website
http://www.livingafterwl.blogspot.com I find a lot of good information on it. It is a free support group. Nothing to buy
(though they do have the packaged foods as sponsors) recipes hints etc. Good luck and I am sure you will do very very well. A whole new life is going to open up for you now!

I had the surgery near 2 years ago. Soup, chicken pure, tuna, baby food. For protein try the protein drinks that the liftweigth used(low sugar of course). Also try preprotein(is usually sell on the pharmacy).
