Is there anyone that has ever got the “lap band” procedure done?

If you know anything that would be great! Is it complicated? Does it hurt? How long can you keep it on? And how much does it cost? My coworker is about 300+ lbs & he keeps talking about gastric but i think that’s just to drastic, and I was doing research and I saw this lap band procudure. I am just curious to what exactly it does and how much it cost and and if anyone has done this. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I am about 300 lbs. and I am waiting to get approved for lap band. I cannot afford it myself, it is about $15,000.00. I know some people that had it done and they have done great on it. Gastric is more dangerous because it is permanent. The lap band can be adjusted and removed. Anyway, I suggest he talks to his doctor about it. Good luck.

    TELLS WHAT IT DOES.

NO IDEA ON COST…DEPENDS IF INSURANCE COVERS.

the lap band procedure is a procedure where a band is fastened around the top of your stomach so that you reduce the amount of food that you are taking in. It will only let you eat so much because not all of the food will fit through the small opening made by the band. Lap band procedure costs around $5000

the gastric bypass however is a procedure where part of your stomach is removed entirely (this procedure is irreversible) and is attached by a tube so that it goes straight to your small intestine. Your stomach’s size will be reduced and you will feel full faster because you wont be able to eat as much. This process is more dangerous as it has killed people and is irreversible.

    Hi how are you?!
Well I’ve never had this procedure done but I have a good friend of mine that has already had it for a year now. She says that it limits you to eat a lot of things, specially sodas. The more you have it tighten, the less you can eat. When you do eat, you have to chew what you eat at least twenty times before swallowing and having the food stay in your stomach, if you don’t you’ll have a sudden race to the restroom to throw everything up. I don’t know if this helps but that is what I’ve experienced by seeing her, but she has lost weight and she said it’s at least 4-5 thousand dollars, depending where you get it.
    Have a gr8 night.
