Folinic acid is the 5-formyl derivative of the vitamin folic acid and it’s used to treat folic acid deficiency, not to reduce folic acid levels. Speak to his pediatrician first. If his pediatrician has diagnosed your son with folic acid deficiency, the doctor will tell you if he needs a supplement and how large the dosage should be.

I believe you’re referring to folic acid, and it should be fine for him to take a supplement. If you have any doubt about any reaction with other medications he may be on then ask his pharmacist. They have a record of all of the medications and will know if any can react with it. Folic acid is a vitamin B deficiency so there are many dosages. Just ask the pharmacist. This is a free service and the one that people forget that is available. Good luck and God Bless.
