My lowest weight was 190 before I got pregnant. We are now pregnant with our second little girl, due in August.. I had been thinking about a gastric revision or lap band after gastric, but I wanted to be done having children for a good while before I even considered it. My husband and I decided that after this little girl, we will wait to have any more kids until I am down to a goal weight for two years.
What I’m wondering is how long after natural birth do you have to wait before having a revision surgery or lap band? Will insurance cover a revision? What requirements are there for a revision?
Unfortunately 99% of insurance companies that actually do cover the initial weight loss procedure will not cover a revision. Sad but true. In your situation a lapband would definitely be more beneficial than a revision to your gastric bypass (most doctors do not want to do this anyway.) Problem is you may have gained weight but your stomach is still so tiny that it will be impossible to do a revision on it. Be VERY VERY cautious to have a surgery with a doctor that tells you otherwise. As far as getting insurance to cover it get your primary doctor to submit a letter of medical neccessity to them and you can just wait and see what happens. I have seen many people get lucky in times like this. However if you are one of the unlucky ones you should consider surgery abroad. You can save a ton of money having a lapband out of the country like 50 to 80%. If you want more info about that let me know and I c an tell you who did mine.
