Is it extremely painful? Hard to heal? How was your experiences? Did the medications cause any stomach pains? I may have to do a cesarean and I have I.B.S. and problems with upper gastric pain due to gas.

I had a c-section and it wasn’t bad at all. After surgery the nurses brought me pain killers every two hours so I never really felt any pain while I was in recovery in the hospital, after I was released to go home there still wasn’t much pain as long as I kept up with the meds. The healing process wasn’t that bad, of course for the first few weeks I couldn’t do a whole lot or lift anything heavier than the baby, but by the time my six weeks of maternity leave was up I was good to go and able to get back to my duties (served in the military at the time, law enforcement). The only thing that took me a while to be able to again was sit-ups and hard-core runs, those took me a while longer to be able to do because of the tenderness in my abdomen, but other than that it wasn’t a bad experience and in 31 days I’m scheduled for my second c-section. I also have IBS but it really didn’t adversely affect me or the healing process.
Having a c-section in itself is not painful at all. You are completely numb. The only discomfort is some pressure when the baby is lifted out. Obviously the healing process is longer than a vaginal birth ( I’ve had both). You are usually urged to get up and walk about 8-10 hours after the birth. This will help speed your recovery and prevent blood clots. The walking will be extremely uncomfortable and perhaps even painful, but do not baby yourself. This will actually help speed your recovery. The staples will be irritating for a while and once they are out the scar will itch and feel bumpy. There may also be some numb spots in areas where the nerves have been cut. Eventually the scar will fade and be noticable, but not obvious. You can also request an incision below the bikini like if you like.
I had a csection with my first son and will have one again in the summer with my second child. I was given medication to deal with the pain, which helped a lot. Your recovery time will depend on you and how well your body heals. Each person has a different experience with a csection. You usually stay in the hospital for at least 4 days and them you are released. The thing to remember is that you have to start walking around as soon as you can.
