Has anyone on here had the gastric bypass surgery if so..?

How did your emotions change after the surgery?

What about your mental state towards others and yourself?

Self esteem?

Personal image?

all the feelings you had before where they still around after?

Did you change as a person?

Good or bad?

or just tell me anything that you have noticed that changed with you or in you.

There are quite a few psycholgical changes that take place after the surgery. You should be glad you are not female, it’s worse for us.

In the beginning you will probably be depressed. This is for a number of reasons. Your fat holds hormones which get released as you lose weight. Also, there is a little mourning for food. People deal with it differently. A large number of people try anti-depression meds for a few months to get past this. They may also be crabby and emotional. All related to the release of hormones, male & female, from the fat.

Then there is the addiction. You were addicted to food and now that you can’t do that anymore, a lot of people pick up another addiction. It could be drugs, alcohol, sex, computer games, whatever. I suggest you start a new project that would be a good "addition" so that your mind doesn’t go in another direction.

Then there is body image. I just had my surgery in August. I have not begun to wear smaller clothes although I have lost over 55 lbs. It takes a while for your mind to actually see yourself as you are. Depending on your age and the elasticity of your skin, there may be some wobbly issues and some excess wrinkles you aren’t used to. This can make you wonder why you had the surgery, if you are doing it for looks.

I had the surgery for health reasons, honestly. The body has not snapped back to the "old way" it used to be, but then again it has only been a very short while. I have not changed my personality yet. If you would like more answers you could join the Yahoo group called Weight Loss Surgery Friendship & Support. The people in that group are very open and will discuss any aspect, with honestly, that they have experienced. It’s a fun group.

My sister had it done and she went absolutely nuts after wards.

Honestly, I know it’s bad, but I can’t deal with her. I don’t talk to her or anything because she went crazy.

After losing the weight she had a full body lift and breast implants and a face lift.
I tried to help take care of her but again, she was crazy.

My dad says that the body can’t take that kind of stress, it isn’t natural, so it makes you insane.

But she doesn’t listen, she’s 40 years old and she makes her own decisions without taking into consideration the feelings of others.

I have not personally had gastric bypass surgery but I am close to someone who did. Although they said it was for "health reasons," this person has changed in many ways since the surgery. After losing 130 pounds, they have had multiple affairs, dress scantily, lost all interest in their spouse and kids, and only want to go out to bars to see how much attention they can get. This person is one of my best friends, but I’m finding it harder and harder to even talk to them. This surgery can help you, but don’t let your new body go to your head. Good luck.
