Gastric Bypass, pregnancy and glucose testing? Any advice?

I had gastric bypass surgery 4 yrs ago, and now I am 14 weeks pregnant. Im taking all the right vitamins and being careful how I eat. I had the glucose tolerance test (1 hr) and the limit was 135, I scored 135. The OBgyn ordered a 3 hr test with the 100 Glucose load and I thought I was going to die the dumping syndrome was so bad. Well of course I failed the first hour and the subsequent hours were fine. Im now supposed to be on a special diet for diabetes, monitoring my blood sugar 4 times a day and during the ketone test every morning with my urine. The diet has 6 servings of starches a day. Im not supposed to eat carbs in that amount with gastric bypass, Im supposed to focus on protein first. Ive done some research and G.Bypass patients arent even supposed to do the glucose testing because it can make them sick.

My doctor seems to be missing the fact that I had this done and that it changes me. I remind him often. Should I seek a specialist? Change doctors? Anyone go thru this?
Also the nutritionist at the clinic didnt adjust the diet for my dietary needs, she just handed me the standard "glucose intolerant" diet. Im waiting for a call back from my bariatric surgeon but havent heard back yet. I need serious advice on this
Thanks thats what I thought! I knew I was going to fail the first hour cos I cant digest sugar, and when it came back high I thought DUH. My fasting blood sugar is always normal, I dont get extreme highs. I test often cos my parents are diabetic and Im at risk for it. And its always fine. Now they are treating me like I am and I keep telling them no…its called not having a stomach! :)

Maybe I should find a specialist!
I dont have dumping problems unless Im given a giant bottle of orange syrup to drink LOL. Im watching my blood sugar but its been fine

I had gastric and asked my surgeon about this. They SHOULD NOT do a glucose test…they need to do a blood sugar test using a diabetic test strip…talk to your ob/gyn and your weight loss surgeon.

There are also some articles on the internet about gastric bypass and pregnancy…let me know how your pregnancy goes!

My OB/GYN actually did the closing on my gastric bypass surgery and he okyed the glucose test because I got pregnant with my son about a year after my surgery. I also failed mine. Just eat the way you need to. I had no problems with dumping during my pregnancy because I ate little of what I had problems with. I couldn’t drink milk so I had the no sugar added yogurt, cheese, and I took calcium supplements (Viactive). You need to keep a close eye on your blood sugars. I was still having issues with mine and they bounced around and it caused placental abruption at 29 weeks. My son is fine now however. He is an active, healthy 3 1/2 year-old.
