Call the local SHIP office State Health Insurance Program numbers and ask them. But I can almost say with certainty No. I worked for the govt. enrolling Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries into the Part D drug program and I heard every case you could throw at us. They are very strict. Call your local SHIP office and get a counselor to help you. It’s usually a 1-800 # in most states although some states have shut theirs down because of all the switch overs to Part D. You’re probably going to have to change your eating habits and eat more wisely, fruits veggies and lean meats and exercise. Good ol’ fashioned adviced. Good luck.
no because they shouldn’t have to pay for it unless it’s a hazard to your health. if you really want to lose weihgt try a diet and some hours at the gym.
There are many criteria to meet before qualifying for this surgery. But, if you do, most welfare programs (medicaid) do cover it. An article in the New England Journal of Medicine published last year showed that morbidly obese people with other health problems live longer after the surgery.
However, you must meet requirements with height and weight (BMI), have other health problems related to your weight (diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and/or others), pass a rigorous psychological examination, prove that you have been unsuccessful at losing weight by all other means for a long period of time, have a healthy enough heart, liver, brain, an intestine to undergo surgery, and have the physical, emotional, and therapeutic support to go through the long recovery and life-long change in eating habits/testing.
Yes, a long list, but important for such a huge operation that will change every aspect of your life – forever.
Best of luck.
