I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the problem you will have is not which company will cover the surgery but is there a company that will accept you. Most of the time, to be a candidate for bypass surgery you must have a BMI greater than 40. Most companies will decline to accept you with a BMI greater than 32. A few will go up to 39 but those generally exclude the surgery.
Visit a local agent that works with all the major companies in your area. If there is a policy that works for you the agent can find it. There is no extra charge using an agent.
talk to your doctor.
I believe you need to talk to you doctor and he will tell you everything that needs to be done.
I know for a fact that various programs in the United Health Care network cover Bariatric surgery. You have to call and speak to your insurance provider directly. The verbage you’re trying to get is whether or not bariatric surgery is a ‘direct exclusion’ for you. If it is, you’ll want to change insurance companies. Otherwise you’re golden. Some insurance companies will approve it even if it is a direct exclusion as long as your in-network care provider gets on board. Good luck.
Weight loss surgery-like gastric bypas surgery have become very common and very safe now. My cousin got her Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in India. She has lost more than 65 lbs in 5 months and is very happy with the results. The price for obesity surgery is very less in India. My cousin just paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America. She got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare.
Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as bariatric surgery and weight loss surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your Obesity surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.
